Series: A Guide to Women's Contemporary Style Publisher: Murata-ya Jirobei Fine impression, color and condition. This design showing a courtesan of the northern quarter is one of a series of prints showing the styles of different kinds of women. Here, the faces of the women in the series are all in a large close-up. There is a total of only five known designs from this series, and this design is quite rare. The series is documented, but only this design is illustrated at the Edo Tokyo Museum, all of the known designs are scattered among other collections. All five extant designs are described in Suzuki, Complete Woodblock Prints of Kitagawa Utamaro, 2009, Series 165 at 237-8
